Radio Networks

Since 2004 Chiara Buratti is part of the research group Radio Networks of the Department of Electric Energy and Information Engineering "Guglielmo Marconi" of the University of Bologna. The research activity was dedicated especially to the study of channel access protocols (protocols for the MAC layer) and of routing for radio networks, more specifically regarding networks for the Internet of Things (IoT). From the methodological point of view Chiara Buratti managed Mathematical modelling, through Markov Chains of single and multi-hop networks that make use of access protocols to contention-based MAC protocols (CSMA, CSMA/CA, Aloha) and also through algorithms for the definition of joint scheduling and routing protocols. Chiara Buratti studied IoT technologies extensively, such as IEEE 802.15.4/Zigbee, LoRaWan and NB-IoT. Recently she also started dealing with Terahertz communications for IoT industrial applications.
